about

When the news came in that the country was entering a second lockdown, the duo set to following up their earlier quarantine emissions with a new collection of songs written and recorded in isolation. Fresh from tackling a Soviet-era space tragedy, Zetra now hone in to a time before the concept of Christmas, when native European gods and traditions were assimilated and appropriated into a festival now celebrated across the world. It’s the story of Odin soaring across the skies during the nights of Yule, rewarding the good and punishing the bad. It’s the story of Sol Invictus, the ancient festival, held on December 25th, celebrating the elongation of the day as the victorious Sun regains its strength. The accompanying cover art is George von Rosen’s 1886 painting Oden som vandringsman, depicting Odin in his guise as ‘The Wanderer’.
